Congrats. We did the e-file thing. The chart says the money should be here on the 23rd. We'll see....

I finished up the taxes a few days ago - I owe a small amount so I figure whey e-file so they can get their money faster. It did feel good to get it wrapped up and printed.

And today I drop it off in the mail - and with a lot of luck I get to play with a few new pen kits this weekend as a reward.

Tax

I just finished my taxes today. Had to pay for cashing in a few OLD savings bonds. Bree......probably should have sent the check to you!!!

Bree and Mark,

Thank you for loaning the government your money interest free.
That's my little "stimulus" to keep the government alive  Now I want it back...

In reality I only paid $861 dollars to Federal last year. Still not sure how that happened.

Well I got my taxes finished yesterday and I'm getting 760.00 back. Looks like I'm buying quite a few pen kits:biggrin:

In the past we've always gotten at least a little $$ back. This year, well, we're filing an extension as it looks like we are going to be helping to fund someone's spending problem. And this is with nothing having changed in our income. Sure wish I could run my budget like the government does.

With the usual, "I am not an accountant and I did NOT stay at Holiday Inn Express", I AM pretty certain that the extension of time to file does NOT allow an extension of time to pay. Of course, we all do what we have to do, but you probably want to see what the penalties will amount to and examine any options before the end of the day, TODAY>:eek::eek:

Filling an extension still requires paying any estimated taxes owed. Filling but not paying will cost .5% P&I per month and not filling will cost P&I of 5% per month. On $1000 that would $5 vs $50 per month.

People who don't pay attention to what is being taken out of their wages are going to be surprised today. A lot less is being taken out (more money to spend...some type of stimulus thingie ???) but the actual tax amount owed has not been reduced. They will get it all back today. I just hope others are diligent enough to have saved it each month and not spent it. Some stimulus huh. Borrowing money to pay taxes is like kissing your sister and my sister is beautiful but kissing her is not something I would enjoy doing:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:.

I'll not mail my payment until the last minute...I owe, I owe, its off to work I go...Bye.
Do a good turn daily!

Just look at all the wonderful government programs you are helping to fund with your taxes. If I had to pay tax I would want my money to fund research of the sex life of the Florida Fire Ant. I am pretty sure there must be such research going on. If not they better get on the ball.

I had a big surprise yesterday a lets just say I will not be buying a Saw Stop Cabinet Saw or any big ticket item for awhile. I forgot to change our withholding when LOML got SS for a full year. Surprise Surprise you owe 4K dummy. Part of that is from the lower withholding during year for Economic Stimulus. I am stimulated alright will drop off the returns on my way to the Tea Party this afternoon. For some reason we get $150 back from the state. Will fill out new withholding forms tomorrow and send them in. SS doesn't have a Tax Rate Table, the use the percentage method, 7%,10%,15% or 25%. You pay in for 40+ years and then pay them back a percentage. At least I have a nice retirement income, but I would sure like to keep more of it. Have a good day everybody:curse: Guess I will go out in the shop and think of what might have been.:bye:

I do not consider getting a "relief stimulus" of any type a "bonus" or reward from Uncle Sam if it is actually a way to stick it to me at tax time!!! Just more rhetoric and BS! We did see what was coming and had set aside extra funds to cover this. We are only filing an extension to allow us a few extra days to round up a few more receipts and shave a little more off of what we owe. It will be less than $1700.00. This year I waited till the final days to file as I feel the longer I keep my money the less time they have to spend it. Oh, wait, 10 trillion of it already is!!!!

Already know what "extra" we get pinned with but waiting a few more days to get a few receipts will save us more than the penalties.

The company I work for makes it real easy to update the W-4 - which I did today to tweak (increase) the amount I pay into taxes. I owed a bit on Fed and got a few dollars back from State to pay for my last order from Beartoothwoods. That's why I dropped off my tax forms today - no use giving them the money early.

So if you don't like making quarterly pre-payments I would suggest you tune the amount withheld so you get / pay a hundred dollars or so.

They hate it when you are too short - and they hate it if you get too much back.

Bree, if you're getting money back, think of all the pen kits you can buy.

Yes... I am thinking of that very thing and MORE!!

Oh guys... I know it's HORRIBLE to let $$$ sit with the Fed without interest. I guess the difference is that when I keep the $$$ and get all that big interest, I never have any $$$ to spend! This year I will will have almost $1,800 to spend on FOOLISH PLEASURES!
:tongue::tongue::tongue:

Woo hoo!! Got the paperwork we needed and the tax lady was able to reduce what we owed to $582.00!! Even with what it had cost to have the taxes done we still where under half of what it was originally going to cost us!!!

There was a time I firmly agreed that you should not "overpay". This year, however, keeping money in your savings account could have gotten you 0.25% per year!!!! That's $2.50 on your $1000!!!

Not a heck of a lot of difference!!

I e-filed last night and mailled the checks today....My $250 stimulis check (tied to VA Benifits) cost me an extra 500 in taxes....Dirty blanks blanks....

Ed is right...pay up up front and then you'll have until oct 15 to try to figure out how to get some back...

That .25% is EXACTLY what I got on my Money Market checking. I got more in my hand by letting the Fed hold my money than letting it rot in the bank! If I withdraw it from the bank I feel guilty. But if I spend the refund... I feel like I am in HEAVEN!!

We had to pay this year for the first time ever. Funny story--my wife went to post office on Tues evening to mail our tax return when she got back in her car there sat the CHECK. Post office was closed but she knew someone was inside and beat on the door until a really nice man came out. He dug our envelope out and even got her some tape to tape it back up once the check was inside. He thought it was pretty funny.

Several of our post offices localy are open until midnight tonight just for those who wait as long as they possibly can.

I shall never forget one year in my younger and less complicated days that I filled out the return after work and took it to the post office. There, at 11pm, on the floor with all of his papers spread out, sat a man frantically trying to figure out what to do. I think about that and chuckle each year at this time.

I, in my younger years have sat on the floor of my office at 3 in the morning of the 15th trying to finish my returns.:eek::eek: I have learned from that.
