Back in the fall, I was introduced to spoon carving....and I like it!
My two initial spoons have grown to almost a dozen. These are all band sawn to shape, then hand carved and hand sanded. If the wood is green, I will scoop the spoon bowl out first but most spoons, I carve first and then use a rotary burr to hog out the bowl and finish up with various radiused scrapers/ sandpaper.
Finish is Mineral Oil/Beeswax
Pic one....long spoons... two Cherry...one with finish, one still unfinished, and the curved handle spoon is from Bradford Pear.
Pic two...Mountain Laurel
Pic three....Boxwood
Pic four...Maple mini spoons
Pic five....curvy handle...unknown species..unfinished.
The unfinished spoons may receive some pyrography embellishments from my wifey.
