As many of you know I have been unemployed from a "real" job for the last three years and work my charter boat in the summer. I also have a towing endorsement on my Captains license and work for Great Lakes Towing and Salvage on an on call basis which is usually slow, but the last couple of weeks has been unusually busy (reason for me being behind making carbon fiber blanks). A week ago a small plane went down in Lake Michigan with 5 people on board. It was found using side scan sonar in 165 feet of water about six miles off shore. I was part of the recovery team. I am enclosing a link to a photo spread taken at the Ludington Michigan dock where we off loaded the plane into the custody of the NTSB. I am the guy in the olive colored shirt and shorts.

You will need to scroll down to the plane crash recovery article.

Jeremy, click on "this link"

Ernie, no, I am the one standing untying the lines in one of the support boats. I think it is the fourth picture.

Now I see ya:). I've dove a few wrecks in Lake Michigan before. That is some really frigid water . Were the diver's wearing dry suits when they did the recovery??

Tough job, good job well done. I knew you were towing boats but have to deal with a down plane is a tough one.

By the way you will be busy very soon.

I did, but it still didn't seem to take me anywhere useful.

Penhead's link works for me though, I'll go have a look...

Yes the divers had dry suits on. 78 degrees on the surface, 43 on the bottom.

Only 43 degrees at 165 foot. I would of loved to been there on that dive. I'd of had my drysuit and heaters also, but I'm a big wuss!! I've done some very cold dives before, but was only down for 15 to 20 minutes. Still pretty wild that the plane was still intact for the most part.

Looks like u guys did a great job. It's been a couple years since I dove last but never had the luxury of using a dry suit. Been in some cold water over the years. Don't think it was ever that cold. Glad I wasn't there. Lol
