Well, at 52 years of age and 5 years on disability I've decided to back to school. I'm already well educated in computer science and education, but I want to do something that I want to do. I'm going for a certificate in Machine Tool Technology from our local community college. Basically, MTT is a 50 cent phrase for a machinist/cnc guy.

I was going to go through the Calif. dept of Rehab since they would pay for all my schooling (at the same college) but with the Calif budget mess who knows when that will happen. I just got all my pennies together and sold some tailstock clamps and was able to pay for 2 classes, fees and books. There's about another week to go before registration closes so I may be able to squeeze another class in.

I'm really excited about this. I know I could get something in IT or education, but this is what I want to do. If things go well, I could be employable by next summer if not sooner.

So, that's my new adventure.

Good luck on your new venture. I have always felt you cannot have too much education, and you are never too late to learn more! I hope everything goes well for you, and you ACE the class. Who knows, someone on the IAP may have to make a Top of the class graduation pen.

Congrats Joe , if this is something you really want to do I know you will do it with honors . It is never too late to add to your knowledge and hopefully make a good living from it .:)

Wish you the best in this endeavor, Joe! I've always had an interest in machining, as well, and even took a part-time job a bunch of years ago in a small machine shop, mostly operating CNC milling equipment. Good luck, hope everything works out for you!
