I got my first "Friend Request" today!

Some Irish guy promised a lifetime supply of Guinness and Irish Bog Oak if I agreed to be his pal.

So, what happens now? Is there a party or something? Will there be cake?

Cheers!

I don't know if I (that's me personally) would be all that excited about the Guinness.. tried it once when I was in Trinidad... tasted like bitter burn sugar to me :frown::wink:..
Don't know what an Irish bog oak would taste like,
probably a little muddy :biggrin::biggrin:

Now the makings of an Irish Coffee,
that's a taste to be reckoned with :good::good:

and if there's cake, would it be a potato cake?:cake::cake::cake::cake:

As John Murphy (a supervisor I worked for long ago) often said, there's two kinds of people in the world... The Irish and those who wished they were Irish..:biggrin:

I have a small claim to that fame... my great grandparents on my father's mother's side of the family were from the "old country":good:

I visited Ireland when I turned 20...I survived on Guinness as I couldn't afford food while I was over there - luckily, Guinness is a meal in itself!

I wish we had it by the tap over here - all we have is the can, and restaurants tend to put them in the coldest part of the fridge...have to warm it up with your hand for about an hour before it tastes "guinnessy'

WooHOO: I'm INTERNATIONAL now, with Friends in Ireland, The US of A, and here in Canada.

I am one popular DoOd, I tellya!

On Guinness: I used to drive 3 hours from Cold Lake, Alberta to Edmonton, Alberta just to go partying (er, I mean "shopping") in the West Edmonton Mall. There were only 2 places I ever went in the mall: Tony Roma's (for ribs) and an Irish pub a couple of doors down (name escapes me, but was most likely Somebody O'Toole's) to fill up on the Dark Nectar... MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

(OK, OK, so I also hung around the indoor beach and spied on yummy mommies in bikinis....)

Cheers!

Gary

OK, let's all beat up on the Irish....

Where does an Irish family go on vacation?
A different pub!

Whats an Irish 7 course meal?
A six-pack and a potato!

Did ya hear about the Irishman who died and was cremated?
He left a wife, 3 children, many friends and a 30' crater where the crematorium used to be.

An Irish worker in a brewery drowned in a vat of beer.
He got out to take a leak 3 times before going under for the last time.

Strange thing about Dublin....every Tom, Dick and Harry I met were named Mick!

Lidhead actually..... Big broad brimmed hats.... haha
Vulcan = Trekkie, even though I want nothing to do with that......
How long ago were you at CL??

Do you mean a particular style of broad-brimmed Stetson issued to a particular police force known variously as "The Horsemen" and/or "The Brownbelts", or are you referring to the generic wide-brimmed hat favoured by those who concern themselves with cattle?

I was one of the Frozen Chosen from '88 to '93 (upon return from Baden, Germany - where I was from '82 - '88)

Cheers!

Referring to certain people who are involved with cattle

You make it sound so... dirty ;)

Pleased to meetcha.

I figured you for a Zip due to your proximity to Calgary (former home of an Armoured Regiment), and because it's normally only Arrrrrrrrrrrmy guys who make fun of we Winged Warriors. OK, well, and the Navy too, but there ain't a lot of sailors in your neck of the woods ;)

Cheers!

Gary,
My family, on my Mother's side, is from New Brunswick. On my Father's side, they hail from Thetford Mines and East Broughton in Quebec.

Sorry Roger, I should have been more clear. I meant "originally" .... Think late 1700's and earlier.

J'ai un ami qui vient de Thetford Mines - Il s'apelle Eric Bellevance ("Bello") et est aussi une officer de la force aerienne. *

Cheers!

Gary

(* Translation: I have a friend who comes from Thetford Mines. His name is Eric Bellevance (nickname Bello) and he's an air force officer too.)

Keith, I heard you don't drink anything stronger than Pop..........and your Pop would drink anything!!!

What's the difference between an Irish Wedding and an Irish wake?
One less drunk.

Gary, Don't worry I'm not like most of these rednecks, I grew up wearing CCM tacs, and when I got about 12 some I got my first good skates,.
We may have one small area of disagreement, my favorite NHL teams are The Le` Habs, and the Bruins. The Leafs Ehh So So, The Oilers were the greatest when they had the great one
I think football (not Futball )is for guys that aren't smart enough to lace up skates. and too lazy & out of shape to turn it up for 2 or 3 minutes at a time.

Super Tacs..here. They were the ONLY skates back then. I played Rep hockey up to Midgets and then the injuries....:frown: BTW +1 on the Oilers.

On Skates: I always wore Tacks because they fit (big, wide box) and because a lot of guys in the Big Show wore 'em. Lately, though, I think CCM skates have taken a HUGE dive and have been replaced at the top. The last pair I bought were Canadian-made Graf and they are gorgeous.... hockey skates that feel like I'm wearing slippers.... like Tacks used to feel :)

On hockey: That's the game developed for people who aren't big enough to play football, and can't run the 40, let alone 100 ;) ... I've never had a favourite team but I have liked certain players. Lemieux and Messier were tops, and so I liked watching whatever teams they were on.

:)

Cheers!
