Well after allot of reading, research & assistance from a friend from this and other forums I've attempted casting with alumilite.
I build a really simplified version of the pressure pot. CNC cut a nice acrylic shelf for inside and then cast for the first time. I've got to say after allot of reading here about the open time of the water clear alumilite I was worried, but honestly I think I could have danced a jig with the time I had left as I was properly organized for the cast and I'm sure this helped. I'll post some pics later of the first pen I've made with this casting, as I'm currently waiting for the tubes to set.

Comments and criticism welcome

Paul

Nice job all around, i am still trying to talk myself in to a pressure pot but i am afraid of blowing it up lol. i have most of the parts just need to man up and try it! great looking pens and thanks for posting them.

Very cool looking shelf and the pen came out great. I have no idea what the temp is where your product is stored right now. It is usually 60 in my shop during the winter, although I crank it up higher if I'm in there, it's not long enough to affect the resin temp. The point though is that the temp of the resin will effect the gel time substantially. I find pouring this time of year is the most relaxing and you really could do the jig while waiting for the resin to gel up. In the heat of the summer, if it's 80 in your shop all the time, things will be way way different! Now you almost have to run as the resin starts flashing while you mix it.

Just got to let you know....I've got all kinds of threaded rod in the garage, even some clear plastic, and I think I like your shelf so much I'm gonna have to make one! Thanks for showing off your set-up!!!!

My garage isn't heated so I need to wait for warmer weather to get started. And your blanks have me doing the warm-weather-dance now. Great looking!!!!

Scott (probably be global cooling now that I'm waiting) B
