I am not happy with Ebay again, and I don't doubt some of you have had this happen to you too, and it is something that drives me insane. This is now the second time I've had this happen to me. The first time was for a movie. I bought the box set of Rome. The company is listed in California. So I purchase the DVD, I sit here and wait..heck they send me a confirmation that it is shipped the very next day, that's great, so maybe I'll have the movie within a week right? The movie shows up 4 weeks later in a package that says it came direct from China. No wonder it took so long to get here. Ok...whatever, so I open up the package and start the series. There is 11 disks, 2 episodes per disk. Everything is great until I got to disk 11. Disk 11 is spoken in English, like all the rest of the disks, but on the bottom of the screen is the written dialogue of what they are saying in Chineese symbols. That's very distracting, but I had to finish watching the movies so I tolerated it. I was frustrated by that, but more frustrated in the fact that I am getting a movie from the US and it is shipped out of China. It's ok if the movie was created in China, but it is not ok if it is shipped from China and the American company is nothing more than a guy that takes your money and then calls up his buddy over there to ship the movie.

So now, I get a coupon in my email, $10 to spend on whatever I want on Ebay. Well...I don't want to pass up a free 10 spot. I wanted to get the new Nickleback CD, and I saw a guy in Georgia that has it for $9 so I bought it. Now Georgia is not that far south of me, you can drive it in a full day. The shipping says it takes 4-14 days...surely because I'm in Michigan, that's going to be 4 days easy even in a snail mail envelope, I don't care who the shipper is. Well, that was 3.5 weeks ago, and still no CD. When I contacted the seller after 2 weeks, he's like well it's only been 10 days and it can take 14 days from here to there. So he does not count weekends apparently. I know most carriers do not deliver on weekends to residential areas, but all carriers still transport merchandise all weekend..weekends are business days for all carriers just not final destination days. There is no chance it takes 3.5 weeks for a package to get here from Georgia. I know in my heart the dang thing is going to show up here some day and it is going to say China on it. This makes me ANGRY!!!!!

If I could figure out how to contact EBAY directly I would tell them how mad I am at them. If you list a location in the USA but you are just a medium man for China direct, you should have to tell the customer that..otherwise it's misleading.

Feedback is your only real recourse. Comment about shipping... "Drop ships from China" or "Shipping very slow".

Not everybody reads that (did you? heh) but it's your best bet.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Jeff, but as a sidebar, what did you think of Rome. I bought the series for my wife a couple of Christmas' ago and we couldn't stop watching.

I thought Rome was great, especially the side stories, but now with the new Spartacus series I'm in real heaven! Don't buy Spartacus for the wife when it comes out in September on DVD or she'll be kicking you out of the house..it's a testosterone event!

Same here with a replacement screen for my camera. Company listed in CA. but express ship from Hong Kong. There should be a requirement for this type drop ship.

We sell oats.
Clean, fresh, locally grown oats.
Our oats are weed-free.
Our oats are pesticide free.
We sell them at a fair price.
That price helps us earn a living.
You can buy cheaper oats if you look past quality and safety.
We will even sell you oats at a lower price,
As long as you don't mind the fact that they've been processed through a mule.

caveat emptor

I've had the same thing, but I thought it was just cause I hadn't read the fine print. Chocked it up to not paying close attention. Didn't realize it was that blatant. That is frustrasting. But feedback is the only tool for the buyer and less than 100% for an ebay seller is bad news.

I just bought a web design CD from a company that is in the UK Skiprat neck of the world. I live in CAlifornia. I bought it on my Friday morning their Friday evening. Recieved the package on Tuesday. And Memorial Holiday was Monday to booth! Good figure!

I am not sure how this is e-bays fault anymore than it is IAP fault when someone who uses our classifieds section does not follow through on their order. E-bay does not control how things get shipped.

Yes, I can understand yout flustration, but it would be the seller I'd be angry with, not e-bay. Even if they made a rule, some sellers would break it.

If Ebay made a rule, then it would be broken sure, but you would be able to report the seller as breaking the rule and Ebay would remove that seller. Ebay permanently removes sellers for breaking their rules all the time, it's just that in this case there is no rule to say where the shipment is coming from. If the seller would say it drops out of China and so it could take 3-4 weeks to arrive, then I'd not be sitting here waiting for a 1 week or less delivery from inside the USA. Then I'd have a better choice as to what I want to do depending on how quick I want the item. I prefer to just go to an actual store in town, but I get these coupons once in a while and it's silly not to use them. I am going to figure out a way to complain directly to Ebay about this. In my opinion it is like false advertising. I understand the Ebay, IAP link comment too...I understand about the risk of paying and never receiving something and I do not hold either of the two to re-imberse me for money spent if an item is not received. But I do hold both of them responsible for having some rules in place and some punishments for those that do not follow, so if AcmeJoe comes on IAP and starts selling things but does not ship, I would expect IAP to ban him from use of the classifieds after the complaints start coming in, and that's all I would expect from IAP.

Couple of things to look for if you think this is the case. Try to sort the auctions by distance from your zip code. Many of the sellers that list their location as USA or just a state, must use their true location in internal files for ebay. Often the distance sort will catch this, if you see an auction listed in your state, but it's 13000 miles away, BEWARE. Also, sometime a seller has a link to their "Reviews and Guides" page, and there are ratings there that can display which area their reviews are rated in.

Neither of these are foolproof however, and the best thing is to just post negative feedback for any seller who lists their location as usa but ships from china.

And coming from China, are you sure the discs aren't pirated? I got a Starwars dvd one time from China that had the wrong studio label on it (That, or I had no idea that Paramount started making StarWars).

If it's pirated, then ebay will ban them in short order.

I understand your rant but it is the fault of the seller not Ebay. It is not just on Ebay it is all over the place on packaging. Just the other day I got an item and a company that is located in the US and the lettering was large and very prominent, but if you looked about 2 inches lower in about size 5 font it said made in China. it gave the illusion that it was made in the US
