When I started to try and make 360 herringbone blanks, I made 1/4" thick tiles. I then moved onto 3/16" thick tiles to improve the final appearance. Not satisfied with that I made 1/8" tiles. Of course, you need more layers. I started out making blanks for Sierra style pens. Needing to challenge myself further I decided to make a blank for the PSI Rollester pen, which would require yet more layers and turning down to a thinner finished profile. With the experience gained thus far, I did manage to complete it in one piece. There are some minor imperfections, but overall I am quite pleased with the result. Producing blanks with no gaps at all is quite the challenge. As always there is still something to aim for! The woods are Pacific Yew, some kind of Rosewood, and Hard Maple.
