Hi all;
I have been offered a job with the U.S. Dept. of Commerce in Bothell, WA. So after 27 years of calling Calfornia home, its time to leave. Just curious anyone up there, any advice on areas to avoid??
My head is still spinning from the news of the job, been unemployed for 2 years, so having full time employment is awesome. Unfortunately there are no relocaiton benefits for this job so I will be going up without the family first, finding a place and then they will join me around Thanksgiving time.
This IAP family is awesome, a resource for things like this truly makes the move a little less stressful.
thanks in advance for your answers.

Bothell is a nice part of the Seattle area -- I have a couple of kids living just north of there in Lynwood. Some good schools in the area and generally good living conditions. Quite a bit wetter and surely colder --

Always good to be employeed and the Seattle area has lots of activities to offer as well as several good colleges.

I've got friends who live/work up in the area. I've sent them an email to see if they have any input about Bothell. I'll let you know what I hear.

Bothell is a nice area. I grew up in Redmond area and was there for 20 years then moved to the Bothell/Mill Creek area for another 5 or so before I moved to the east coast. I do miss the scenery of Wa state!!!!
I would avoid some of the Everett area (south Everett), but other than that, Kirkland, Redmond, Bothell, Woodinville & Mill Creek are beautiful areas. Half of my family still lives in the eastside area, if you want any other information just let me know.
Good Luck out there. Traffic sucks, but the scenery makes up for it.

Okay, it's time to get my eyes checked again. I originally read the title as "Moving to Brothell". (LOL)

Mark, Congratulations on the job. All the best on your move. We will pray for a smothe transition and a short seperation from your family.

Hey, Mark:

Congrats on the new job. There are lots of nice areas in Bothell and it's probably one of the less expensive areas in the immediate Seattle area. It's also enough on the edge of the Metro area that you can easily find a place "in the country" that's still convenient to commute. The commute to Bothell probably gets much tougher as you head South toward Seattle or Bellevue.

Feel free to contact me directly if I can help or answer any questions for you.

Congrats on moving to a Brothel! I'm sure you find many things to keep you interrested.

Oh, um- Sorry I miss read that. Well Congratulations on moving to Bothell. I'm sure you will find something interresting there.

The toughest thing to get used to is Seattle drivers. Yellow lights do mean go faster and a a red isn't truly red until it has been red for at least 5 seconds. A friend of mine was rear ended because they stopped at a yellow light and the person behind her thought he could make it through.
We do have a Woodcraft and a Rockler in Seattle and 2 lumber stores with great selection, Compton and Crosscut.

Moving to my home-town??? Well sorta!! I graduated from Bothell High. I lived in Woodinville and before that Redmond.
There a LOt of nice areas to live out there. We lived in a neighborhood called Reintree in Woodinville. It was on Woodinville/Duvall highway, just past where it intersects with Avondale Road. A mile or so past Cottage Lake.

Ggod Luck with your job and move!!!

Thanks for the input. Woodinville sounds mighty appropriate..

Bring your Jeep Mark. There's lots of big puddles and holes full of water in Washington state too! Or..you could drive that baby into a pit of Lava. She can take it..I know she can, because I saw the movie Dante's Peak. Just go low gear and keep an eye out for any stranded dogs on the way.

Yeah. saw that movie and also told SWMBO that we could live on one of the islands out there on the sound, hook up a snorkel on the jeep and go.
Everyone is warning me about the traffic. Will be interesting. Lived north of LA for 5 years, and when I worked for HP was at least a 3 hour commute each way. Did that for 10 years.

My two nephews moved up there from CA years back, their first complaint was the traffic.

Good luck on your new adventure, Mark!

You forgot Edensaw Woods. OMG, you will never leave. The wife had to drag me out screaming.
