College is bringing me out to Chicago. Hoping to find some other turners to hang out with, get to know, maybe find a place to do some weekend turning? It would be nice to have some other people to know when moving :)

There is a great woodturning club in Chicago....The Chicago Woodturning Club: http://www.chicagowoodturners.com/CWT/index.html

The club has a ton of talent with several very well known woodturners...and a couple of them even do pens. They are sponsoring a symposium in August...Turn On! Chicago 2010. I will be doing demos and I hope we can meet if you are there in mid August. Check out the symposium info at http://www.turnonchicago.com/

Good luck with the move and ...
Do a good turn daily!

Don't think a chicago group ever picked up on IAP, but come up over the border for the Wisconsin one.... Next meeting mid-august... And I know there is a turn for the troups event coming up at woodcraft. Welcome north!

You might look up "chicagohand" here on the forum. He makes some nice pens.

I went to college in Chi-Town. Unfortunately I wasn't turning at that time. So no input from here, other than stay away from South Cisero!!!

H Dave,

As Dean mentioned we will be having a Wisconsin Chapter IAP meeting on August 15 at noon at Woodcraft. Woodcraft is also having a Turn-for-Troops Sept 25.

Your welcome to join us.

PM me if you have any questions.

Dave,
Are you sure about the day for the turn for the troops?
It has typically been the weekend before Veterans Day, and that was what was announced here

Yes. The date of the next Turn for Troops is September 25, a Saturday. There will be another Turn for Troops closer to Veterans Day.

Well thank you for the invites! I won't be in Chicago till August 28th, so I'll be missing the meeting...but I'll try my hardest to come and turn for our boys in the military!

Dave,

I meet with Dave (CHICAGOHAND) in the fall and winter months to turn during the week. We are both married with children, so turning on Saturday is usually out and Sunday is dedicated to church. I have asked several times on several threads and PM's about getting a Chicago IAP chapter started, but I have had no help and little response. I am still interested in a chapter, and there is a Woodcraft close by. I am sure that we could meet there. PM me.

Rob
