So I spent some time today finally cutting up some old mesquite branches that I picked up off some more oilfield lease roads. A lot of it went into my shop woodstove but I was able to get 5 nice blanks out of all of it. Just gonna put them up for now until I decide to turn them. The grains on them were quite surprising as I kept cutting from side to side. Lol Got all these to about 7/8" x 5 1/4".

Those are nice blanks !

Does Mesquite have a distinctive smell ?

I've turned some Mesquite in the past. Like Bobby, my smeller isn't so good, but it reminded me a lot of Red Oak. I do know that if you don't wear a dust mask plan on spending some time sneezing and blowing the schnozz. The middle blank in the picture reminds me a lot of Manzanita.

I turn a lot of Mesquite. Most of the time I wear a powered respirator/facemask. The times I forget to wear it, I end up sneezing most of the night! Some people I know cannot even burn it in their fireplaces due to the reactions they have!

I turned the one pen but it never bothered me. Of course, ca, cocobolo, etc.... doesn't bother me either. Lol
