I did a mold last night and was wondering something. Do you guys do the "pour" in one set up or layer the silicone or will it cure on its own? I have never done anything this thick with silicone before. I have never done molds before so this is an adventure for me........
Thanks in advanced,
Brian:)

I believe it all depends on what type of silicone you have. There is the RTV, which should cure no matter how thick it is, but if you're using regular caulking, you will need to layer it or mix water with it I believe to start the curing process...

I used Serge's tutorial. I was fine. Don't sweat it. If the tube of silicone has a nozzle, squirt it into the deep parts of your mould positive. Do the whole thing in one go rather than letting layers cure.

I made one with tube silicone caulk a year or so ago and had to let it sit for about a week before it was cured, but I didnt add anything to it. Some say add water. I dont know. I recently bought some silicone mold maker from US Composites and it was very easy. Just add the catalyst, stir, and pour. It doesnt tear or dry out and holds up to heat just fine. It was worth the extra money for a quick set and no mold release is ever needed.

My first atempt was not as well as I wanted. I used packing tape to cover the mdf, it stuck to the tape. I then used a piece of saran wrap for a test ant that worked great. I am going to make another one this weekend using the saran wrap.

I have done one with the saran wrap and it works great, but because air can't get to most of it, it does take about a week to cure. Good luck.
