I picked up a piece of 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC pipe yesterday for practically nothing so i decided to try soem round molds.

So far, i have only made one round blank but it came out really nice and it wasn't too hard to get out of the pipe. The only concern is the fact that it seemed to have split the side of the pipe in one spot.

I have also been messing with some new pendant blank ideas. As i have mentioned, i mix in the sillycone muffin pan cups. After i mix and pour, i leave just a touch of PR in teh bottom of the cup, and sit it at an angle so the PR dries in the bottom of the cup, only at an angle... Then i mix in it with a different color, etc. etc. They look pretty cool as blanks. I plan to turn a couple tonight and see what the inside looks like!

Pipe is fine if you only use PR. If you every start using Alumilite, don't try the pipe! Alumilite shrinks so little that it will be VERy difficult to get the blank out.

Cool! Thanks for the heads up! I am pretty happy with PR so far, and have very little exposure to alumilite so i don't see a change any time soon. I will keep that in mind though!

I used PVC,but with PR it will bend the pipe even in short 6" sections. It takes a few batches to get the bend, but it will come.I went ahead and made a silicone mold for round blanks, works well.Good luck,Victor

It needs to be SCH-40 pvc and you won't have any problems. It doesn't bend and it will slide right out when set.

We will see what happens. I am just about out of Pr and am marinating on the last bit i have for now. This pvc is sch. 40 so hopefully it will work! I drilled out my only round blank today for my Jr. Emperor kit. Man i am excited about this pen! It already has a Heritance nib installed, and i have Private Reserve ready to go! Rho, and Bl. Ti. whew... what a pen this will be!!!

The sch. 40 is what got a bend in it for me.It bends do to the high heat created when the resins start to set.Maybe you will have better luck then I,keep us posted on the results.Victor

I've poured over a gallon into 2 abs molds and neither have bent. I just picked some pvc 1/2" (sometimes I just don't need 3/4"). I guess I'll see if there's a difference.
