I'm just guessing here, but it looks like you would secure the blank behind the red stopper. Then you run the saw between the black guide wheels to make your angled cut on the left side, or you straight cut or even angled cut again on the right side..

Most newer mitre boxes have it for several different angles, these look fixed.

Hope this is close, and if not, my appologies.

I think Dean is right. My Grandfather had a wooden version that he used for picture frames. His used a strap clamp to hold the wood in the jig

I had one very similar to the one you showed. It was marked "Pro Miter Co." and took a special "back saw" which I lost and could not find a replacement. I think the Pro Miter Company went under or was bought by Jorgenson. This is the piture framing saw that replaced it. The old version cut both sides of a picture frame in the same jig setup for a super accurate 90 degree outside corner and a perfect fitting 45 degree miter. My old Pro Miter version was limited to 6 inch frame moulding.

I use four of these harbor freight brand clamps when I make frames. I also have a brand new saw like the one pictured, I cannot get myself to use it, the table saw is easier for me.
