Perry, your doing great, it's been almost a year for me..well I did fall off the wagon for a few weeks this summer and right after Dianes hip surgery.
Stephen, a little pill called Chantix cuts your will power in half.
Congrats. It has been four weeks for me. Smoked a couple packs a day for over 50 years, but it was time to quit. Taking Chantix and doing ok. Again, congrats and good luck going forward.
Aww great Roy!!! I don't have much will power as it is and you want me to take a pill to cut it in half!!!!! Some friend you are....
LOL, I know what you meant though. I don't like taking pills if possible but did try the patches and the gum, but they just made me feel crap.
I think you need to be syked up and ready to do it. I just need to make up my mind and do it. Although I don't smoke in the house, the wife and kids are always on my case about it. :frown:
Good for you, I smoked 3 packs a day, tried everything to quite. One day I made a bet with one of the guys I work with, that I could. Thats been 15 years now. I still want one every so often. I never did collect.
Best thing you could do for yourself. Congrats and stay at it. I quit about 18 years ago after an allnighter with a buddy and a fifth of Fighting **** Whiskey. Couldnt smoke or keep anything down for 2 days. Decided if i could go that long i might as well quit:biggrin: Of course now i dont smoke or drink Fighting ****.:embarrassed:
I will add a comment about smoking. A doctor asked me if I smoked? My reply was, "My father died of lung cancer. I DO NOT SMOKE!". "Smoking is an addiction so you can spend lots of money and die in terrible agony at a young age".
If you are offended by this, I hope you are offended enough to quit smoking!
LOL! Sorry this subject always seems like a joke to me. As Randy points out about causing cancer and the fact that cigarrettes cost so much why would any body want to smoke.
Yes! I do have the right to laugh. I smoked for 20 years 2 packs a day. And I got tired of hacking up black stuff every morning and being out of breath after walking up a flight of stairs. So see I've been there done that and I can laugh about it.
The hardest part about quitting smoking is the deciding to quit. If there's any part of you that doesn't want to quit you'll find all kinds of reasons to take another puff. The main thing to remember is you weren't born with a butt in your mouth and you don't need it to live. It is hard to get over the first little bit and getting used to the taste of your mouth again. And getting used to being able to smell and taste food again but once you get used to it you wonder why you ever started smoking in the first place. Oh that was way back when you were young and thought that was cool. Nowdays the cool thing is not to smoke.
Am I down on smokers? No not really my brother still smokes and so does my Dad. My mom did till she found out she had breast cancer and knew that she couldn't fight it with smoking. Bless her heart she quit to late.
I forgot to add I've been smoke free for almost 10 years now. I remember dreaming I smoked when I was quitting and waking up being so mad that I smoked and figuring I might as well go buy a pack before I realized it was just a dream. All it takes to quit is don't. After a few weeks it's know problem. Oh the dreams came in after 3 or 4 months.
Great for you! The doctor told me that he wouldn't let me quit. Smoking made me cough and if I quit coughing, I wouldn't get any exercise.
Just kidding. I quit five or six years ago and 45 or 50 pounds ago. Don't keep track of it because the smoking is a non-issue for me. I decided after nearly 40 years just to lay them down.
The weight is an issue, though. I replaced the smokes with snacks.
