A friend at work asked for a pen, so I gave him one from my personnal stash. He loved it and started showing it around.
Well, the boss seen it and liked it very much.

Now the boss wanted me to make a prototype part for him, so I used a piece of scrap and gave it to him today. He was very impressed and they are going to process two more parts tomorrow. Then it goes in for the V.P.'s approval. If it works out, I may have to start casting again. Could amount to several hundred pieces a week.

We'll see what the big-man thinks...

Thanks!

My boss and the V.P. were very impressed along with most of my co-workers. The pieces are going out for the final step in the process and will be back on Tuesday. If they hold up through the last step, I will be making exclusive one-of-a-kind parts. At least until the copy-cats come along.

Some of the guys at work said I should get a contract written up. That way the guidelines are set up and both parties know what to expect.
Anyone have experience with type of thing? Advise is appreciated.

Man. You are in a pickle. It is wonderful you headed in this direction. Going to your employer and asking then to sign a contract can be touchy. You know them, I don't. Here is a story that may not relate, but might be something to keep in mind. For years my son worked late into the nights developing a game for inter net action. He wrote the code and did all the flash animation. He went to his employer to let them know he was going to launch this program and guess what, the fine print in his contract said all his work belonged to his employer and he had to hand it over. I am sure that won't happen and there are much more qualified people than this old banker to hand over advice.
I hope and wish the best for you.

This is the color they chose to run the samples with.

Yep, that's in my contract too. I think it's pretty standard. I think the loop hole is that as long as you don't do it during the hours you are already getting paid and it is not a conflict of interests, then you could be ok.

It would be real nice if you can pull it off in an informal deal, but just look out for yourself at the same time.
Good luck

The parts finally made it back from the final process. They made it all the way through the complete process with no problems at all. Everyone was impressed at how well the material machined and finished.

The company is very excited and is moving forward. They are now contacting their customers to get feedback. There is one company coming from Chicago to see and test them.

We'll see where it leads. It may just fizzle out, who knows?
