I have an unusual pencil/lapel pin that I would love to get some info about. As you can see from the pics the tip is missing and I was unable to photo the gem in the end,it`s about 1/4 " in dia. and has a yellow cast to it.

The pencil/lapel pin is 3 and 1/4 inches long with a dia. of about 3/16 in..
It weighs 4 1/4 DWT(penny weight) 0r about 6 1/2 grams and is 10 karot gold.

It appears to use about .5mm lead and that`s a guess from looking.

As the pics show it has a pin attached. I`m assuming that it can be worn as
a lapel pin.

The name inscribed on the piece looks to be Pauch & Co.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Sorry for the bad photos(camera challenged:biggrin:)

I have no useful info but would assume it is an old timey compass(the pin is the set point - not for the lapel)...

I'm not sure Jason, could be. But the pin looks like it's too short of the lead so that the lead point could make a thin line. As it looks the lead would be mostly on the side edge - just my observation & guess.

Also most compasses have a lock for the angle and the finial (top thingie) is adjustable to stick straight up , at that angle it would be difficult to use .
Are you sure about that company name ?

Have you thought about sending a picture to auction houses or to places that deal with antiques ? might have a very valuable item on your hands .
