Well our plans for our first big trip are fixed....not carved in stone and we left some slack time to visit and see sights along the way.

Here's our route if anyone is brave enough to have us stop by. We will be happy to take fellow penturners to lunch or diner and would like to see what you do with wood. We are always looking for new ideas to steal or borrow. If you are near our route and could stand a visit let us know. Visits will be short and we will try not to impose. Just me and Kathy.

Leave Spring and travel I-45 to Dallas, TX (4/23). Dallas up I-35 to Ardmore, OK. and on to OKC (4/24). Next day in Shawnee, OK for a Penturner's Get-Together with Roy and Diane Robaldo and their club. We will leave that afternoon to Wichita, KS (4/25) on I-35. Next morning to Olathe,KS (4/26) on I-35 for a 2 day visit with my 84 yr. old Uncle. On Tues (4/28) we travel through W. MO to Mt. Home, AR and stay there until 4/29. Thurs. we drive to Hot Spring, AR (4/30) for some much needed hot spa time and a stop by Spa City Wood Works for some sticks. Friday (5/1) we head through AR and NE TX heading in the direction of home. Sat we finish the last 200 miles back to Spring. Some of the roads from one place to another, we are not sure of yet and we can make small detours. We are also looking for interesting places and things to see so suggestions are welcome.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, George

Sounds like a great trip. Drive safe and make sure to pick up some great wood finds out there in the middle of KS. o' wait they don't have many trees there; just wheat field.

Thanks Lee, looks interesting. We'll try to stop on our way north. Glenn, just go ahead and move into my shop. I have more wood than I can turn in my lifetime. Just ask the dogs if you need anything, they'll help you find it. They stay in the shop all day whenever I am out there. Generally underfoot!

George, maybe a LITTLE detour down south east.....well its maybe sooooooouuuuth eeeaaassstttt, and I will introduce you to a true South African tradition of a "braai" (something like a bbq) with a game of Rugby and a Castle (a REAL beer). :)

Enjoy your trip and drive safe!!!

Well you come a long way to still not get close enough to my neighborhood. I still hope you have a wonderful time.
As I recall the last time I visited my fathers farm in Kansas we took a ten minute walk to check his sheep fold. on the way I picked, peaches, plums, cherries, apples where not ripe yet, walnuts, raspberries, currents, gooseberries and wild grapes. Never made it far enough to find the real good stuff, got distracted by the birth of a lamb.
Might want to keep your eye peeled on the ditches as you pass through Kansas. and a tip those branches holding up the barbed wire come from nearby trees. and there are usually extras laying along the fence line. Not so much that anyone needs them but nobody bothered with carting them off. ask a local farmer and they will probably help you gather a few up.

You have a great trip George, envy you! If you ever get to southern CA. there will be dinner waiting for ya. Be careful, have fun!
