It's that time again folks. Our next meeting is March 13th (yes, Friday the 13th falls on a Thursday this month) at 6:30 PM at Jim Hoechstetter's shop in Indian Land, SC. Unless someone has a better idea — and an offer to demonstrate — I will do a demo of prepping and turning alligator jaw bone blanks. These blanks are stunning and the pens that are made from them have quite a unique look. And, since these bad boys came from the mouths of 'swamp things' if you thought turning deer antler smelled, you ain't smelled anything yet!
Bring your latest creations for Show-and-Tell. We will also be doing a PITH (Pen-in-the-hat) and a blank swap again, so bring a pen and a few blanks to trade with other members.
If you have items you would like to sell or swap, please bring them along as well. Rick Dior (a local turner who makes custom drum sticks) has a number of 3/4" dowels in a variety of timbers (Zebrawood, Red Heart, Yellow Heart and others) that he is willing to part with for a reasonable price. He is planning to bring them to the meeting to see if there is interest. This a a good opportunity to acquire some nice, round blank material so you won't have to knock off those pesky, sharp corners.
