Some may recall that I got hooked on marbling pens and posted this thread 4+ years ago:
Some may also recall my obsession with abalone/Mother of pearl inlaid bolos posted last year:
I decided to combine the techniques since there is still a growing interest in unique bolo ties.
I also got into gilding the the turned frames while they were still on the lathe: copper and fine silver leaf, applied with gilding paste.
I then parted off the frames, applied alum as a mordant, marbled them with handmade paints floated on methyl cellulose-thickeded water, then returned them to the lathe with double stick carpet tape.
The next step was UV epoxy resin application while hand turning them; 2 coats, cured with a 365-405 nanometers wave length light.
I then applied the abalone inlays discs, sliders, cords and cast tips.
