This is a maple burl that I had cut up just today. I was hoping for some nice bowl blanks but I may not get to much to use for that. Ants had made a colony in the middle of the burl. [V] But the good news is that there will be plenty for pen blanks because it has great multicolored spalted grain as seen in the last photos. Also nice bottle stoppers. Most of it I had cut 2 inches thick. The first pics are of the burl on the Wood Mizer.

As you can see the ant damage is in the middle but there is plenty of wood around it that is solid.

You folks are cheating---where are the crow bars and hours of back braking work with a chainsaw.
Looks like some real nice wood-- dang shame about the ants.

That ain't ant damage... that is art!

Turn it into a bowl if you didn't cut it all up! Just wear a face shield when you turn, those buggers hurt when they hit.

Definitely beautiful wood. Am I going to get in trouble for this but I am anxiously waiting for maybe some flat pieces like those shown and pen and bottle stopper blanks, as long as SWMBO does not find out before it is too late.[:D][}:)][:D]
