Making Bowl Blanks

Had to go get a new spark plug today for the saw, Karen did a little shopping and we came home and made some bowl blanks out of the hickory. Made 8 of them before it looked like rain was going to pour.

I cut them off and Karen waxed on.

Nice process and teamwork. Do you use any of the Pith cutoffs for other smaller usage? Just curious.

What I normally do is take that quarter-sawn piece and cut the pith out. These are a little small but sometimes with bigger logs I can get two good sized blanks out of them. Which gives a completely different look to the bowl. These are too small for that. BUT, this is hickory and those are going to be saved for possible tool handles. As to the pith, it goes into the firewood bin.
