Getting a new vs grinder on Monday so my question is, should I buy a set up like a Oneway (Wolverine) or just go off some plans that are on the web and build my own?
Robert, there are many plans to make your own. I am not handy with that kind of construction. After a year of planning and delaying making my own, I bought the Wolverine set up and finally know what sharp tools will do for your work. If, on the other hand, you are good at making jigs and adapting tools, go for it.
I also have the Wolverine, I had been using an HF knockoff of a slow-speed Tormek. It was too slow and cumbersome to set up, and didn't have the proper fixturing for turning tools. The Wolverine is ready to go within an hour of unboxing it, mount it per the instructions, watch the DVD and you'll be up and running....
I have seen a couple really clever home made versions. But none seemed to work as handily as the Wolverine. However, I would say that the answer to your question lies strictly with your skills, ingenuity and access to the proper equipment to make one.
If you are trying to save a few dollars, check out the PSI knock-off of the Wolverine.
BTW, I have the Wolverine and really like it.
