Most probably are aware that the luxury division of;
Nissan is Infinity,
Honda is Acura, and
Toyota is Lexus.

But do you know that the Super Luxury of;
BMW is Rolls Royce,
and
Mercedes is Maybach?

Here's a real trivia for you,

What was the name of Mazda's luxury brand that was canned before making it to market?

Hint: The Mellinia (sp.) was the only car produced for the line but was sold as a Mazda when they decided not to move forward with the brand.

Millenia later replaced their 929 (high end) series if I remember it right.

I don't think the BMW/RR combination fits with the others listed. Toyota, Honda and Nissan started their respective luxury lines themselves, and the cars have a lot of common traits. Mercedes/Maybach still fits because they essentially started Maybach from scratch when they "revived" the name a few years ago.

RR was established long before BMW got involved. That would be like saying Jaguars were luxury Fords a few years ago.

Now if someone would like to buy me a BMW and RR to point out all of the common characteristics and shared lineage in order to prove me wrong, I say bring it on.

IIRC, Alpina is the sport division of BMW, and AMG is the sporting division of Mercedes.
Both Mercedes and BMW want to have a viable diesel formula 1 car in the next year or two.

I'll take exotic over luxury any day. So give me a made in US of A Vector WX8!!!!

vector_avtech_wx_8.jpg

Up to 750hp, 0-60 in 3.3, 11 sec. 1/4 mile at 138 mph, and possible top speed of 260-270 mph.
Yeah Baby!!!!

And another sports car trivia question ......... Remember the Datsun 240Z? (Who could forget! What a machine!) What was it called in Japan?
Technically, wasn't the Datsun 240Z known in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z, and not a Datsun Fairlady Z, being the American bound versions were badged as Datsuns?

And as for sports car trivia, what car did Yamaha play a role in building?

I wouldn't mind having one of these also, but the car is a bit of overkill around here. We actaully have speed limits (not that they could catch it).

if we are talking about what we want then I want An Ariel Atom. And I may actually be able to afford one too.

No, this is not a cut away pic, that's the whole car.

Right now my 9-year old Chevy has 200,000 miles, the AC still works, motor and tranny run flawlessly. Paint is flaking off, dashboard is busted from dry rot, and passenger's seat recline handle broke.

No payments. 35mpg on the highway, still! (I checked it on a 6 hour drive 4 days ago).

Sounds good to me.

I spent the early eighties craving an early Z. I knew everything about them, once.

I'm a little older than you ..... okay, probably a lot older. Which means I got to crave it a whole 10 years before you. In 1970 the 240Z was a whopping $3500, brand spanking new right off the show room floor. Problem was .... it was my first year of teaching school and I was making $5,500 a year.

The coolest 240Z I ever saw had a tricked out Chevy 327ci, four on the floor, mag wheels, and, supposedly, a 4-11 rear end. I wouldn't know a 4-11 rear end from a 411-pound rear end, but that's what he said.

Of course it kinda had bad aerodynamics with all the scaley rust and the rusted hole in the front fender large enough for a cat to crawl into.

I guess if you gotta have your priorities....

4.11 = great acceleration and 4500 RPM highway cruising.... lol. Talk about low gearing.

BTW I saw a Maybach 57 the other day. 337,000 USD said the sticker price.

If you have never seen it, watch the Top Gear segment on this car. Beats everything around the track except: Enzo Ferrari!

Well my 1970 VW Baja Bug still gets 27 MPG paint is getting rough again, one fender got cracked in a parking lot, doesn't have any heat, no radio, all the windows close, and it runs like a scalded Ape, and won't cost over 1000.00 to do another restore, , but alass and alak it wont quite do 270 MPH Thank God. but it will bust a hundred which in it feels every bit like 270 would.

AH, I miss my V-Dubs! At one time I had 9, yep, 9 Bugs, 2 Ghias, and 2 Buses. One of the Ghias and 3 of the Bugs were my little hot rods. The Ghia was set up with an engine and trans axle from a 914. One of the Bugs was a drag car running a 2180 and the other 2 for street was running an 1835 and a 1914. Had a Bug set up as a baja with stock running gear with a home built 6" suspension lift. Another was a '56 oval that was about 95% restored and a driver. Everything else was driveable but mainly used for parts or trading material. Been thinking about looking for another as I would like to build something along these lines. . . .

And I want to build one of those because I cannot afford one of these . . .

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 and at a cool $2 million for a new one, I am gonna have to wait and snag a used one on at the corner lot!!!! LOL!!! 0 to 250 mph in under 60 seconds!!!

As for the Ariel Atom, I'd just as soon scoot around on a turbo'd 'Busa!!
