I mentioned in the thread about the arthritic dog that we had a new cat secluded in my wife's office and here it is.
But first; a little background.
This little cat first showed up last spring and we would see it around the house from time to time. Around August it started "chirping" at my wife and she began to leave dry food out for it. One thing led to another and the cat "adopted" us It would show up at the back door morning and night for a can of food. At the first snowfall the poor thing was shivering at the back door and my wife tried to entice it into coming into the house but no go. We had a spare dog carrier so I put it outside and covered it with a piece of plywood and we bought a cheap blanket to give the cat some shelter. On New Years Day I let the dogs out at 5:30 in the morning as usual and I wondered if the cat was using my "shelter". Got the flashlight and sure enough he was in there. Wednesday and Thursday were the coldest nights of the year and Momma tried to get the cat to come inside. He came to the door and sniffed, rubbed on my wife's hand but still would not come in. Friday night comes and my wife was feeding the cat, which we nicknamed "#5" and the cat walked right into the house! He was soon overwhelmed when the other 4 cats all surrounded him and I was able to grab him and bring him into my wife's office where he could be dry, warm, and relatively safe.
Friday night and Last night he hid in the corner of the office behind a chair but he was vocal and he would let us close enough to sniff and give him a little pet on the head. This morning I guess he decided that we were good enough and he came out and was rubbing against us and purring. We had an appointment to take the dog to the vet so we decided that we would take the cat for a health check up and the necessary shots so that he could find his spot in the "pack".
We just returned from the vet a few minutes ago and the news is great all around! The dog is responding beautifully to the aspirin and glucosamine and the cat was given a clean bill of health. The vet says that he's a 10 months to a year and a half old and is in great shape. Feline leukemia and aids tests turned out negative and the necessary vaccines were given. In 3 weeks he goes back to be neutered and have booster shots.
Please allow me to present the newest member of the "Mudder Pack"; the cat formerly known as "number five" has now been renamed "Lucky" and is at this moment meeting the other "pack members"
