a Pilot Razor Point II. It has a Super Fine point on it.

I have a potential customer that loves the way these pens write and would like a nicer pen then the Pilot Razor Point II looks like.

Any suggestions?

Take the refill out and build a pen around it.

Just did the same thing for a customer with a different refill. Nice order.

Could you put it in a collet chuck and turn off the plastic cover small enough to slip it into a turned barrel?

What is the OD of the pen? Will your customer be happy with a pen that is 1/4" thicker in the middle? If so, make a "sleeve" that fits around the pen and screws together at the top or in the center. Then, when it runs out of ink, simply insert a new pen into the "sleeve".

Careful though, they say they will accept an additional quarter inch, then when you are done, it is too fat or too heavy. DAMHIKT

I am not familiar with that pen, but you can get rollerball refills in EF (extra fine) and fineliners (felt tip refills that are a direct replacement for our rollerballs) in various widths.

I will have to try the insert route... I never thought about that before. Just another reason to love this site.

I did mention the different types of refills and we discussed the Extra Fine refills. Sadly, he still would rather keep away from other refills. :(

Actually the "sleeve" doesn't have to be very thick at all. I just started reducing the wall thickness of some of my pens to around .050" so you could make a "closed end" design that the insert would fit "snugly" into and you could make the cap that just snaps on rather than thread on.

You would wind up with a pen that is approximately .100 to .150 wider than the original and that's not much of a difference so he'll likely feel comfortable with the feel.
