Boy dont they open up a whole bunch of strange thoughts...[}:)]:D

Ok the reason i posted. Ive heard a few folks like to have the sap in wood they buy. Im not sure if i ever really saw sap in a finished pen or item. Every time i go to my wood supplier he has piles of wood, like that cocobolo i had a while back, with sap all over the place in the board.

I think some of you folks would like it but im not sure of a few things. Like how to ask this question.

Im not sure how to pick out the pieces. Do we want sap all the way throught the board, just a little on the surface, on both ends.
Or it doesnt matter as long as it swirls around and look pretty.

If you can guide me a little that would be great also

If you have any pictures of "sappy pens" please... pretty please post them .........

Pete,
I love heart and sapwood combinations. I have several in my gallery, and will try to find some for you. Most people seem to prefer about a 50/50 split, though I think that less sapwood also looks nice (creates a nice contrast). I've even seen some Amboyna with more sap than heartwood, and that also looks nice.

Pete, like Jim, I like a comination as well. That being said, I tend to prefer mine to be only on one barrel and at somewhat of an angle. But that's just me.

Pete,

My preference is the two-tone effect. I love the combination sap/heart w/ contrasting color. My preference is for it to run the entire (or close to) length of the pen and not just on one end or so. Of course there are instances where those effect are ideal too. If the sap appears only on a few spots, it is okay too.

What I am saying is...buy them all and post it here LOL. [}:)][}:)][}:)]

Only exception for me is pure sap or more sap...I don't like those too much (but that is just me).

BTW, I am still waiting for your call [;)]

Thanks everyone, i see what your doing, next time i go ill take a closer look.
