I'm am a bit of a burl obsessive as well. As far as cocobolo, bocote, and pink ivory are concerned, I can hardly count on one hand how often I've seen those in the marketplace. I occasionally see blackwood burl on the burl trading Facebook groups, but I know for sure I have seen it for sale at Exotic Lumber in Annapolis, MD. It's not on their website, but I've seen it in the warehouse. The reason I haven't purchased it for myself is that I feel like any of the figure in it would be invisible once finished. It would just be too dark to see.

As for other species, I did see this bubinga burl (with a price reflective of its size and relative rarity) while browsing Hearne Hardwoods in PA:

You might want to put out a request on www.woodbarter.com to see if anyone might have some stashed away and willing to sell or trade.

Bubinga Burl! I am in Central NY and might need to take a trip to Hearne!

thanks for sharing your thoughts on the search for the needles in the haystacks!

I am actually driving 4 Amish to a horse auction next friday down to lancaster area, (new hollan PA) looks like hearne is only 35 minutes from there. I might see if I can escape for a little bit :)

It was meant to be! I get a finder's fee for that bubinga, right? I will accept payment in the form of burl ;)

If I recall correctly, that specific burl is in their "showroom" of sorts at the front of the main warehouse. Inside the warehouse, there is an upstairs burl loft you might be interested in. Mostly Aussie burl varieties I think, but who knows what else might be in there:

When I visit Hearne's, I always stop nearby at the Sawmill Grill for lunch. It's only fitting...
