Chris,
If you find something let me know. I would love to have the same thing. I have the tools but no "aptitude" as you say. I think I could follow a plan if I could find one.

This is a display box with a hinged frame and glass. One could make one to hang on the wall using pen trays to hold the pens. Make the box to fit the trays. This one sits on top of a counter in the store.

The example you showed could be easily modified for a wall display. I think it could be done with out to many problems.

I'd do something similar to that. Just a frame and a back and a door. inside drill holes and use adjustable pins to hold glass shelves. Place acrylic displays on the glass shelves. The shelves could also be mirrors, or you could put a mirror behind the pens..but I think that's too busy. Light colored woods work best for pen displays in my opinion.

Anyone know of a pen display that would look nice hanging on a wall? Trying to find a classy way to show off pens on an office or den wall, preferably a closed display (to cut down on dusting).

This is a great display: http://www.levenger.com/PAGETEMPLATES/PRODUCT/Product.asp?Params=Category=8-92|Level=2-3|pageid=6352 though it doesn't have wall hanging potential.

It seems if that is solid Alder like it says you could drill to small holes on each side under where the top hinges and put too small nails in the wall to support it. You would have to level it and take it off the wall to fill it but then you could use it for a wall display.

If the back is relatively flat, why not add a couple of those little saw toothed picture hangers at the corners and hang from them?

He may want to display more then 8 pens though and I think it might be cheaper to for someone to make him one. If I had the know how I would offer but I have done very little flatwork and my router scares the heck out of me.

A cheap, quick idea-

You could just buy one of those (p)leather covered hardside pen cases that PSI sells, and remove the hinges and handle. That gives you two holders. You can build a case around it or just cover with plexi.

Heck, you could just hang the whole thing on the wall with a hook by the handle if you want REAL quick and dirty.

Hold on just a sec... on an almost daily basis you stick a razor sharp steel tool -that could slice right through you- against a piece of wood with suspect integrity that is spinning at 20,000 rpm... and the router scares you?????

If you're "selling"/displaying your pens at a good price or just for pride, then visual presentation is VERY important. Don't go cheap, go with style and don't take shortcuts. JMO I'll post a photo of a display(desktop) that may change your mind about hanging on a wall. I'll do this when I get home.

Hah, shows what you know about me, I have no sharp tools, lol. (I was the kid they always gave the "safety" scissors to growing up.) Besides doesn't a router go like 100,000 rpm and the sharp "tool" is moving rather then the wood.

J/K about not using sharp tools but I haven't gotten them to the point where I can shave with them, not that I shave anyway but that's not the point.

Thanks for the suggestions. Peter, you hit the nail - I want something classy that would look nice in a professional office. It would be, ideally, a 10-12 pen display that could be opened to pluck out a pen and to replace it. A functional way to showcase a collection, while still being able to access the pens.

Classy and functional.

Display ideas

Hi Chris,
my apology for not posting sooner but here's a few ideas for displaying pens. One is a fully closed case that is best suited for getting the pens "safely" to your potential customer. By reversing the hinges, you can "flip" the top and thereby display like a photo frame. The second unit is probably better suited in that the pens "rise" when the top is pushed back (elevator idea). Close the lid and "down" they go. Although you can't mount the second unit on the wall, you can put the case on a shelf and thereby have the ability to clearly display. I've got a ton of pen cases that I've designed to hold my collections and will gladly provide more ideas if required.
