I know Matt (Gadget) was making molds and I've bought from him before, but I haven't seen him listing anymore for sale in a while and I PM'ed him with no answer. I'm not looking for resin saver molds I need 15/16 x 5 1/2 like he used to make. Mine are still useable and I've cast over 300 blanks and they are starting to wear, would like a couple more.

Roy I was looking for Gadget the other day. I was thinking I may have to learn to make my own silicon block molds if I can't find him. I am tired of messing with the plastic tubs and the cutting board ones I made are fugly.

Chris--- Modlemaker was also making some block style molds similar to gadgets, but haven't seen him around either, Charlie might be able to do some regular blank molds

Roy isn't looking for resin saver molds but he is seeking a different style.

ROY: modelmaker also made the molds like gadget. Maybe you can get him to answer.

There is also an excellent tutorial in the library outlining how to make your own using silicone caulk. It was written by Serge...from Australia.

Do a good turn daily!
Don

Charlie, (newlondon88) is the only maker of the ACTUAL AND ORIGINAL resinsaver molds.

He has a sale going on now.

Thanks Don, Looks like I'll have to spend the time making my own, I remember Serge's tutorial,,,,
Padre cant use resin saver making cactus blanks, impregnated wood blanks and other embedded such as pasta etc....

Roy,

I can make you some. I was just getting ready to make some wine stopper molds. I do have the form you are looking for. It is set up as a two compartment form. PM with your phone number. I could probably send that with your pen stands.

P.M. sent......

Actually, the ones that he is looking for are not resin saver they are a block style mold. And Gadget was making his before Charlie starting making his not that it matters.

I was referring to the name resinsaver. Charlie makes the Resinsaver brand. That is the commercial name of his line. Resinsaver is actually molded in to the side of each of his molds.

Roy, this may be an extremely dumb question and for that I apologize as I have only embedded coffee beans, but why can't the resinsaver type molds be used?

Making your own molds is a lot easier than making the blanks that come from the molds.
I did a demo at the last SE Chapter meeting but Bob and Robin haven't had time to get the photos up on the site.
I did post photos of the completed molds in the section for the SE Chapter.

Get the material from either www.smooth-on.com or www.theengineerguy.com. Mold Max 30 is what Jack makes the Resinsavers with, MoldMax 40 is a little less supple and is green. The sample kit should be sufficient to make one mold for four blanks.

Let me know if you want more information.

In a weird way Charlie is right, but we've all know he was weird:wink::rolleyes:.When I make cactus blanks, impregnated wood blanks or any blank that is not component specific they need to be just like any of the wood blanks you might buy, where you cut and drill the blank for the specific component kit you choose. Hope this clarifies any confusion you might have had. If need be I can post photos for you of what I mean...

The tubes get in the way!

Those little nubs do it every time!:biggrin:

Has anything come of this i am interested as well
Honestly, making molds is the easiest thing about the casting process.

First, you make a box to use as your mold's mold. This box should be large enough for the blanks that you want to make, but small enough to fit in your pressure vessel. I make that box out of poly cutting board and UHMW. Many people screw thier boxes together, but I simply duct tape it together and the caulk the seams using Goop. The resulting box will be plenty strong enough to use as a form, but will also be super easy to break down once the mold is complete. It will also be able to be reused over and over again.

Once I have the box built, you need to affix blanks to it to act as the negatives for the blanks to be poured. (Skip this step if you just want to make a 'brick' mold.) I find it easiest to goop down wax coated blanks for this since they will pop right out of the finished mold and the goop will peal right off. Once the Goop has set up, you can mix up a two pound can of RTV and pour it in. A day later, you will have a Gadget-like individual blank mold.

(Extra credit to anyone who can identify the wax-covered blanks that I used to create the negatives in this mold.)

Jeff, I'd be interested in some, too. If it is easier to batch produce these count me in for some too! The 15/16th are ideal for full sized pens!

I have a 7/8" square by 5.25" mold negative that houses 4 blanks.

If you are interested in one, PM me and we can talk. The more people that want them the better the price because the cost of the silicone goes down.

Hey guys im still alive and well and seling molds i havent checked my iap account in about a month (Super busy at work!) I wasnt getting emails from iap either and some people have tried to contact me, sorry about that.
