Look....no segmenting!!!!

I don't usually turn resin blanks, but a member of the British forum who is a caster has been trying to cast this Japanese paper that I gave him.
It's a wee bit cloudy for some reason or other...maybe my inexperience at finishing this material.....though he himself suspected that there may be a bit of cloudiness. I turned it and put it on an Aquilo pen kit as my wife likes it even better. Comments welcome.

Very unique! I think the engravings on the hardware go pretty well with the design on the blank, too. Well matched. I've never heard of the Aquilo style, but I think its perfect.

My wife and I went with a Japanese couple in Nagoya to a museum for Washi or Chiyogami - it was somewhere outside of Nagoya. They had the most beautiful paper designs there.

Marla wrote an article for the AAW magazine on casting pen blanks that included how to do Chiyogami papers. It was in the August 2017, Volume 32, No 4 issue if you have access to them.

Washi itself is the making of paper from pulp and water, only in an art form so far as the texture - which is in many different forms and then there is the art designs and color which is Chiyogami. The two terms can overlap somewhat.

That Japanese paper seemed to be all the rage here ten years ago but I never tried it until now. I thought that the ladies would prefer a bit of colour in a pen.....my wife likes it anyway!

I called it Japanese paper rather than Chiyogami paper as it is not really the 'real' thing. It is more like wrapping paper...... which makes the casting more difficult.

The kit is an Aquilo and is a finial twist, having a Parker style refill.
