Can someone please assist in "converting" a .pdf file to "another" format such as jpeg, bmp, gif ? The reason being is that I have a nice looking (pen) logo that I've drawn out and require it to be made available in a format that a laser can read.

Guess that my "soft" software skills are showing. If there is anyone here on IAP that can provide assistance with this request, I will gladly pay for your services (within reason).

Kindly post here on this thread or feel free to contact me by IAP e-mail.

Thanks for your response.

Peter -- I have adobe acrobat pro and it handles that kind of conversion without a problem. It is a 3 minute task --

If you do not get a better offer, I can certainly do it for you. No charge but no warrenty.

You could try the "alt-print screen" method. When you do that, the entire active window is copied to the clipboard. You can then open the image program of your choice and paste it in. Crop as desired.

office picture manager (or similar) will create .jpegs.
Paint will create .bmps.

With Adobe Reader, you can select the "snapshot" tool to highlight an area, then copy and paste into a graphics program to save it as a jpeg or other format.

Ken, thank you for your helping hand. I should have also "added" that beyond the "file conversion", I need someone's computer skills to slightly "modify" the logo and "add" my name around the "shield" of the round logo. Can Acrobat do that or is there another program that can accomplish this?

For a laser, you should use vector. Raster will give a poor result. If Tom does in in AI for you, your laser guy will need software that will read it and if you don't have the software, you can't open it either.

PDF is 'Portable Document Format' and will often contain images that can be
saved separately. Try right clicking on the photo and see if it allows you to
save the image.

Do you have a list of formats that the laser company takes? If you do, and can list them here, I'm sure Tom or myself can let you know which format to use for them. PDF, EPS, and Adobe Illustrator are rather standard vector based formats that most commercial printers use, and in a perfect world, it should work for laser engraving also, but my experience is that many of these systems often take the more complicated and unusual CAD formats or proprietary formats, so the users often have to jump through hoops to get customer supplied artwork into their systems. Also, in Vector art, things are not always what they seem. I've gotten artwork from people quite often that were made quickly with many shortcuts (using white shapes to make it "appear" like there is a hole in a design rather than taking the time to create a compound path or punch a shape out so the background shows through) and these sorts of things are the nightmares of the design world.

Sounds like Tom knows what he's talking about, and he's offered to help, so I'll take position as backup if he doesn't have the time or anything else comes up, but I'm sure he would also benefit from seeing any specifications that the vendor has...

Peter, you need to ask your laser operator what software he's using. Epilog Laser touts CorelDraw but can be used with Adobe products and other CAD software. The software treats the laser as a printer.

THANKYOU for your helping hand.

:)Thank you all for the overwhelming responses that I've received. I have sent the .jpg file to Tom and hopefully it is useable for the file "translation".

The knowledge and support here on the IAP is wonderful and the generousity to assist is incredible. Without a doubt the "community spirit" is very much alive here at the IAP corral.:)

Logo is finished...I had to recreate it in Illustrator. I will let Peter post it if he wants to...

Tom, your work is simply amazing. You've completed the work with blazing speed and the logo is better than I could ever imagine.

Here's an attachment that will hopefully 'open' for anyone wishing to see the finished result.

Tom, if you could post it so that we can ALL view the work w/o the attachment that would be even better. Thank you again for all your work, this would not be possible without your 'artistic' creativity.
