I turned a love, faith and hope pen. When i twist the pen the end barely come out! Any suggestions on how to fix this. I was sent another twist mechanism and still barely pushed the refill ink to the end.

I will ask the same question as another post where they had a problem. Did you insert the spring the right way. Many times these ballpoint kits have a spring that has a small end and a large end. Small end toward the refill. . Another thing did you surface sand the ends of each tube end so that the blank is even with the tube? If so and the spring is not the answer then maybe you need to sand more of one of the ends of the lower barrel. There is a video instruction on this kit on the PSI site if you have not checked it out.

Is it for sale or a gift? Can you add a tad of epoxy (and shape it) to the tail end of the refill?

Next pen…To learn from this...
If the refill is short ...shorten the lower blank
If the refill is too long make the blank longer.

Here's what I do with a short extending refill... I gently trim/sand the (red) end of the twist...The open end with threads. It shortens/lowers the refill thus pushing the refill out to a more desired position. Just trim a little and check...trim slightly more if needed. Before final assembly clean the twist as it'll have filings on it. Not sure of what I wrote??.. I'd be happy to talk you through.

Thank you for the suggestions. I am going to try and sand the twist extender.i would rather not mess with the blank at first. I have an extra extender so I can try it on that one before trimming the blank if needed.

I love to make this pen, but it seems to have quality control problems. Sometimes the brass tube is too short (most often), sometimes too long.

1. The centerband will be uneven leaving gaps between CB and blank OR the threaded piece will be proud of the ring band. Dissassemble CB (2 pieces) and sand the top and bottom of the ring. If threaded piece is proud of the ring, drill out the recess in the ring. Thin CA glue and reassemble.

2. The brass tube can be slightly too long or short. If BT too long tip will not extend. If BT is too short, the tip will not retract enough. Photo shows how to judge blank length. This is a Dragon pen, but the idea is the same.

All I do in that case is remove the refill, take the bottom (section with the tip) and gently repress the transmission the amount further that you want the tip to extend. I do this in very small increments because if you go too far you cannot undo it. It may take two or three represses. The 'insert to this line' is there as a general reference should all things be optimum.

I use a Dremel w/ small barrel sander.
Nice pen. Looks great with the Olive Wood.
I made the FHL for someone and everyone in her church wanted one.... I did not take the order as this a For Fun hobby to me.

I want to thank everyone on the suggestions. I shortened the blank about 1 mm and works perfect. This is a gift to my best friend.

Glad it worked out!

Working through these issues is something we all do and it makes us better pen makers!
