I have recently ventured into the world of casting. I'm learning a lot in a short period of time and have discovered . . . oh, no! . . . yet ANOTHER obsession in the making! Here are my second and third pours. Each has problems with some pitting - from bubbles, I guess. BTW, Alumilite, dye, Pearlex and 70 lb. pressure for 1 1/2 hr. With the little pinholes, I tried several times to fill with medium CA when I was done turning and had sanded the blanks. After letting it cure overnight, I tried gently to take the excess off with a skew, then sand. Almost every time, the tiny voids were back. I even wiped the blanks down with DNA once or twice before putting CA (I also tried thick) on. Any thoughts?

I learned something about casting with acorns: Don't use the whole acorn! When turning, the nuts pop out and need to be filled. Using just the caps works much better.

Finally, just for fun, does anyone want to guess at what is cast in the first pen? No prizes, just bragging rights! Russ
