Hello all,

In Mid August of this year, CHP Officer Brent Clearman #17843 was killed by a hit and run driver in Oakland, CA. This guy was top notch. I only new of him through very close friends and co-workers, but he was loved by all. A Marine Corps Sniper and Iraq war veteran, Brent became a Highway Patrol Officer in 2004. In the short time he was with our department, he was very influencial with our Department's SWAT team in assisting with the training of our snipers. He will be deeply missed.

Here is a brief article...

Anyway, his wife saw one of my casing pens that is owned by another Officer / friend of mine and really liked it. I am in the process of coming up with a 300 Winchester pen and display set for her that will be engraved with Brent's name and Badge Number. I am really looking forward to the time in the shop as that has ben scarce lately. I will post up the finished work. I will likely use my favorite wood (Red Mallee Burl). I will post it up when I get it done.

Cheers,

Fangar

I'm sure she'll love it. I still think you've got the best looking casing pens out there, too bad she has to get on under these circumstances.

What a loss. Thank for sharing James...hope the guy who hit (and run) Brent get whats due him.

I will say a prayer for Brent and family.

I remember the first post and thanks with the article.I have a feeling you will get "help" on this special project. It always happens when your heart is in the right place.

I have a few .300 Winchester Magnum cases, five or ten, something like that. if you need them. They are brass, so they would have to be Powder Coated.

It is always sad when something like this happens, and I would never refer to something like this as an accident. Someone did something stupid and cost this man his life.

A few minutes ago, my wife and I were on our way home, and passed a cross beside the road. After seeing the cross, I remembered that it was a man who worked with my son, and was taking his 16 year old daughter to get her driver's license. A drunk, running at a high rate of speed, passed on a curve, hitting the man and his daughter head on, killing them both.

The drunk and his drunk passenger were not hurt.

Do everything you can to find the hit and run driver. If there are other snipers in his unit, they might be able to think of a way to prevent this driver from doing it to someone else.

Fangar, I have church members who are police officers & when they do get a achance to attend, I always remind them that our prayers are with them. We just lost a city police officer, going to a domestic dispute. Could I make a suggestion abou the wood? I think red mallee burl is beautiful wood but since he was CHP, perhaps redwood burl since it is the state tree. Just a thought. When you see the family, please give my condolences to them and thank them for the officer's work. May God bless them by giving them His peace.

Fangar,
Our prayers go out to the family of the officer.

My best friends daughter was killed by a drunk driver. She & 4 other girls went to the beach so she could see the sun rise on her 18th B Day. I have no compassion what-so-ever for anyone who drives drunk. Unfortunately they usually aren't the ones that get hurt.

Thanks for posting that Fangar

[:(]

I don't have the time (or the skill for that matter[}:)]) for this myself, but I will be happy to donate some special blanks to anyone who will make a pen for this lady who lost her husband.

Let me know, I have plenty of wood waiting to become useful, I'm sure James won't mind helping us get the pens to her.
