LOML gave me these for Christmas...well 2 of them she had me order myself :D and the last one just arrived yesterday.

1. Beall collet chuck system (still waiting for delivery of the last collet for "B" mandrel) (from WoodChips

2. Standard McNaughton coring system (from CSUSA)

3. Hollowing tool with captive ring and laser. (from Monster-Wood-Tool)

Of these 3, I am happiest with the hollowing tool setup. It is extremely well made and I got extra bits FREE :D (helped that I know the maker/owner from another forum).

The boring rods are all 3/4" and works well with the Don Pencil handle which I luckily purchased (and collecting dust) for months now. This product is highly recommended (they do have cheaper tools starting from $34.95).

I also rearranged the shop and made a few jigs like bowl steady and a steady rest for deep bowls, vase and spindles. Not yet finished but pics will follow.

Needless to say...I am psyched!!! :D

For the picture police...proof that it did happen ;)

Ben,

You know you are partly (or majorly?) to be blamed for these purchases don't you? To which, I will be forever indebted. [}:)][;)] LOL

I guess the rate of your posts here will be diminishing.

LOL

Posts diminish? You saw that there is a Beall Collet chuck there right? [:D][;)]

I am getting more active on other forums though...

Congrads on the sweet tools. If you remember when you got your new lathe I told you you would move into other areas of turning. Thats what happened to me with the 3520B. I have the hollowing set you just got in my favorates to buy soon.

Chuck,

If you see my back patio and garage...you won't tell me to harvest any wood now. I probably have enough wood that 3 full sized pick up truck cannot carry them [;)]

Besides...that tree is one of those that I won't touch. I don't care how nice it is LOL. [xx(]

Al,

LOL so does the hollowing tool. [;)] in fact I plan on using them to drill holes in my pen blanks so I might have to sell my drill press, PH vise, and drill bits! NOT!!! LOL [:D][}:)]

Dario, you make me sick! [}:)][;)] Drool!!!!! Okay, just for that, I'll be sending my bowl blanks to you so you can core them and send them back to me. Whaddya think of that?[?][}:)]

I'm sooo jealous. You do know that it's your fault I got the mustard monster, right? Now look what you're gonna make me go and do. If Norma kicks me out you problably outhgta get my bedroom ready.[:p]

Fred,

Weather was better today and managed to turn ...a hollow form.

Not sure if one use is enough to make a review but here it goes.

I picked up an unknown wood (root) the other day and thought I'll use it for practice. It looks like mesquite but I am not sure what it is. Smell wasn't that of mesquite though.

Anyway I did all the roughing with a roughing gouge then the bowl gouge took over once I am near the final shape. After that the Monster tool took all the action.

The system is easy to assemble and use. The bits are ready to use so you don't need to sharpen them.

I only used 2 bits, the round scraper and the swivel tip. Most of the work was done by the swivel tip and it worked great! I finished the hollow form w/o sharpening. The round scraper was used on final clean up. I'll be honest...the interior of my hollow form is not as good as I want it but good enough and I attribute that as user's error [;)].

I used the laser after I have done about half of the coring. I thought it was easier w/o the extra arm but after installing it, it wasn't awkward at all. I know the laser helped me a lot and knowing how good it is to have it...I won't recommend you buying w/o one.

I encountered 2 problems. The recessed hex bolt got stripped (again user error). Wood dust got into it and after a while it got packed and I can't put the key deep enough...as a result I stripped a bolt. Good thing I have extras.

Second problem...the laser's battery compartment (uses 2 - AAA) keep popping open. Nothing a rubber band can't fix.

I will post a pic of the HF in a few days...the finish is still wet and I plan on putting another coat before buffing.

Things I leaned.
1. Clean recessed hex bolt before tightening/loosening it, else you will strip it.
2. Green wood is not good to use for hollow form...it will change shape before you are finished.
3. HF with natural holes on the side makes for easy clean up of shavings (inside the vessel).
4. HF with natural holes on the side will mess the entire/shop garage and makes for very difficult clean up.
5. I just got reminded that bigger turnings create a lot of shavings.
6. Microwave is indespensible if you want to finish a green turning the same day.

Hope this helps you.
