I recently lost my home and all my pen kits and blanks in a forest fire in Ruidoso, New Mexico including a good supply of laser inlay kits from Kallenshaan and Lazerlinez. I have been slowly replacing everything, but it looks like Lazerlinez is no longer in business. Is there anywhere still making those inlay kits? I found a place that sells the stainless steel pen kits but have not found anywhere to purchase any of his inlay blanks. I had a few favorites from Lazerlinez that I would sure like to find again. I mostly make 3/8ths tubed bolt action pens.

Check this post from a coupe years ago. Looks like they are still manufacturing but have gotten out of the retail part of the deal. Might check Woodturningz or Exotic Blanks to see if they have any of their laser inlays.

I am very sorry to hear about your house. Here is a post from about 2 weeks ago where McKenzie Penworks announced they purchased the laser cutting end of the business.

Thanks for the reply Mortalis! I use Woodturningz and Exotic Blanks a lot but I believe they only sell Kallenshaan kits.

Thanks Mark! I saw that McKenzie picked up the Lazerlinez pen kits but did not see anything about the laser inlay kits, but that is very encouraging information! I will keep my eyes peeled for something from them.

Oh Doug, I'm really sorry to hear that! I looked and I don't seem to have any lazer-cut kits left, but if I find any, you can have them! Let me check my 'super organized storage area' again - aka the pile of crap I call my workshop!
OMG. Andrew! You just brought me back to a lot of great memories from WOW and before that Woodworking dot com. Some really great folks that got me started in this crazy vortex call pen turning.

Thanks for the response and the flashback of wonderful memories. I've lost touch with all those old friends from back then but I am very appreciative of their willingness to share their knowledge with someone who had just bought a lathe and caught the bug and needed a lot of help. It's good to hear from you my friend!

And, of course, IAP has always been my "go to" forum for the really tough questions because there is no greater source of information regarding anything related to pen making. I usually don't even have to ask the question - just do a search and find what I'm looking for.

I remember reading everything I could find from Don Ward and I think it was Russ (or something like that). I still get some rattlesnake blanks from Don once in a while - that reminds me - I need to order some rattlesnake blanks again. I tried casting my own but they never turned out nearly as good as Don's.

That forum is how I discovered the IAP, Doug - I can't remember if it was Sonny Edmonds or Mark or someone else who steered me this way, but I had a lot of good memories from those days. Actually, I think it might have been you that led me to the IAP now that I think about it! I still have a cool cnc'd sign that Leo Voisine made me, and Cody Coleson sent me some really cool stuff when I was first starting out.
Coincidentally, I literally googled "TDHofstetter" the other day to see if any of that crew were still around! It's super nice hearing from you, Doug, albeit in super-crappy conditions. I really hope you got an insurance claim on your shop! Seeing your name again was like seeing an old family member jump back in the picture!

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. You seem to be in good spirits and rebuilding. I would like to think that you have the opportunity to rebuild exactly they way you want things, not having to make the mistakes of the past. Trying to find a silver lining and all. Best of luck.

I looked high and low, and all I have is half of a Kalleenshaan greek flag pen kit...it's missing the stripes...so unless you're half-Greek, you probably don't have much use for that. Sorry I couldn't be of help, Doug - hopefully you find some somewhere!

Try sending @ed4copies a message - he's the go-to expert on whether they're still available, I'd think! :)
