So I am on vacation in Santa Barbara, and pay a visit to the Central Coast Woodturners. When I get back to my cousins place I see this pile of Koa boards in the garage only a small portion of which is in this picture! :D

With over 100 board feet total and around 25 - 30 pen blanks per bf, I'm thinking 3000 pen blanks!

Then I learn that her husband has a commission to turn it into a table, and so after a couple hours of planer work there is a pile of Koa dust on the floor! [:0]

So far he has filled several 30 gal trash cans with Koa dust

I hate to see any dust on the floor for any kind of wood. It's a waste, but it's a fact of wood working. Just need to figure out ways to save as much as you can.

You can always collect some of the shavings, mix it with something else and make into a pen. It is possible:

This one is mahogany shavings and corn.

This one is Padauk shavings cast in Alumilite.

hmm, well since I am already shipping home some Olive, Avocado and other wood blanks that don't grow in CT, I guess I could always use Koa sawdust as filler in the box!
