Does anyone here have a Kindle? LOML is an avid reader and I am thinking about giving her one for Christmas. Any comments pro or con? I am thinking that with the price of books it wouldn't take long to justify the price.

I've had one for about 6 months. It is very easy to read and surprisingly easy to get used to. I think it works better for things that you read from beginning to end, rather than books where you might jump around or newspapers, but even these are OK. I definitely appreciate it when traveling.

I've also sent some of my documents to it and used it when giving presentations. I just did this a few days ago - in many ways it's easier than using a paper manuscript.

I'm still a fan of regular books, but this is a good supplement. I received mine as a gift, but seeing how useful it is, I would likely have bought it myself.

Be sure you get a case for it. The cases make it thicker, but you don't want to damage the Kindle!

My wife has a kindle and she absolutely loves it. She never used to read the news and now has a subscription to the NY Times. She also gets a lot of books free and discounted. Books that are in the public domain are often free. Also some authors offer a free book first time, kinda like a crack dealer :) Even the regular books are less than buying paperbacks. She uses the "whisper net" to download the books from the comfort of our living room. It's quick and there are no shipping charges or taxes either.

She didn't find it difficult to use. It is lighter than some books. The font size can be changed and navigation between pages and chapters is easy. The battery life has also not been an issue. One thing she did get was a little light with a flexible shaft which she clips to the kindle when she reads.

Dick, I don't have the kindle but I use my Ipod for the purpose of reading. It is so convenient to just carry it in my pocket and pull it out to read anytime I get a few minutes.

I've got a Kindle 2 had it for a couple of months. Had a kindle 1 since they came out. My wife has one, my daughter has one too. No question. A great item.
