Gerry Rhodes' (Gerryr)lovely wife was thrown from a horse while riding yesterday. As of last night she was in ICU with a concussion, a broken rib and probably a punctured lung. There's also a small amount of inter-cranial bleeding. I will post additional information as it becomes available. Prayers and/or positive thoughts would, I'm sure, be appreciated.

Gerry, you and your wife will be in our thoughts and prayers.

It sounds as if she had quite a nasty spill. I hope that she will be out of the ICU soon, and her healing will be as swift and painless as possible.

Thanks to everyone. I just came back from the hospital and she's much better today than she was yesterday. She had some inter-cranial bleeding from the concussion which was the principal reason they kept her in the ICU last night. They did another scan last night and the bleeding was no worse so that's good. She got a fair amount of morphine yesterday because of pain in her head but hasn't had any for about 8 hours. When I got there she was enough upright in bed that she could read a book. But, they're decided to keep her for another day but she'll be moved to a regular room sometime later. She isn't too happy about being stuck in the hospital for another night. The neurosurgeon said she'll have problems with short-term memory for about a month.

The horse she was riding is one we've had for about 8 years, 19 years old and had never bucked before yesterday. She was behind the two people she was with so nobody has any clue what caused it. Apparently the horse bucked once and then just stood there right next to my wife. She unfortunately landed in a bunch of Prickly Pears and still has quite a few cactus spines in one arm and leg. Nurses are not terribly good at removing things like that, so I'll have some work to do when she gets home.

Best news except for the cactus.....

Gerry,

The one thing I have noticed on this forum is that we all seem to become a family even if we have never met. Many caring people here that are always willing to help out a fellow turner. I would like to add my prayers and best wishes for your wife's speedy and complete recovery.

From your update, it looks like all those prayers and good wishes are working:)

Dan

Gerry!

I am so sorry to hear about her injury! I hope she heals quickly, and is home with you guys soon! My Wife and I send our best to you all!

Scott.

Wow, that sucks. Here's hopes and prayers for a speedy and complete recovery.

Gerry,
She has you so she is in good hands. Keep her happy but don't let her do too much. Good luck with the cactus. Although uncomfortable it is the least of the worries. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
