I am sure that everyone knows about the American Legion Childrens Home by now. If you don't, they are an Orphanage for kids of American Veterans. They have been open for over 80 years, and they are the ONLY place like it, Helping over something like 8,000 kids.
I have been in contact with them quite a bit recently, after about 12 or 14 years on no contact, And when i contacted them back then, it was a thirty minute visit on my way through town. Otherwise, It was 20 years ago when the Judge said I could go home, and I never looked back.
ANYWAY... I just found out today, that Alot of their funding now, comes from DHS, Which has DRASTICALLY changed the criteria for entry. When I was there, the NUMBER ONE HURDLE was at least one of your parents had to be a Veteran. Then there were Psychological tests, etc. etc. There are Children of Veterans on campus, but they are outnumbered by DHS court orders.
I'm not trying to be political. Just thought it was kinda sad.
