Just wondering if anyone has ever thought about renting out kiln time. I have tons and tons of wood taking up space waiting to dry and since i don't have the money or space to make a kiln, i think that would be an awesome way to make a little cash off to the side of woodworking. If anyone is up for it, i would definitely be their first customer... what do u guys think?

I think that unless the owner of the kiln is local the shipping will eat up any savings on time. If there are any sawmills in the area check and see if they kiln dry their wood, a trade might be set up.

There are a number of articles on simple kilns ranging from converted refers/freezers to small solar kilns. Not much money to make a refer kiln after finding a refer that does not work (free) to modify into a kiln. Key is where to hide it (like not on the front porch unless you live further south) while it does its work. ( yup -- Winter 2010 Wood turning design -- Bowl drying, but the box does not care what is in it.)

Convert a fridge/freezer, you can pick one at the dump for free and the conversion is simple and easy.
