Anyone as happy to see him leave as much as i am? Hopefully Tennessee will look for a dedicated coach with more action on the field other than his mouth.

I was quite shocked to hear that USC did that. It's just too bad that Pete Carrol wouldn't admit he was leaving before the sanctions started for his illegal activities.

Maybe Tn. will hire Mike Leach.

Only joking a bit here...but Leach as head coach, Mark Mangino as offensive coordinator and Jim Leavitt as defensive coordinator would probably be a very competent staff for most any team (and a public relations nightmare!). All have a better resume than Kiffin in my opinion. Kiffin must be some smooth talker in interviews. College football analyst Pat Forde commented it's like Kiffin was born on 3rd base and thinks he hit a triple.

The curse of Dennis Franchione be on USC! He left Alabama after some violations and then COMPLETELY RUINED MY BELOVED AGGIES!!!

I feel bad for Tennessee. Not so much for USC.

Rough Tough Real Stuff Texas A&M!!

I'm a big vols fan but, i didn't like the smack talk that he did. The sec will definately be better with his departure. To me he chose a bad time to leave for the university. some of the commitments have already de commited and looking looking to go somewhere else.

I'm a transplanted Texan and have become Tennessee Vols fan... tried to watch as many games as I could this season... I wasn't really surprised by his move.. thought he was a mistake from the beginning and didn't feel confidence in him. Maybe TN will realize their mistake in getting rid of Fulmer??

A couple of the boys on the team the other night said something to the effect that they wanted to see Fulmer back.. Kiffin didn't keep his word to his players or the school.

Can't happen yet and would probably be a foolish move for him at this time, but the wife said she thought it would be a good opportunity for Peyton Manning to step up... she thinks he will wind up a coach at TN after he finishes his NFL career. He does a lot for the Vols program... and I've heard donated quite a bit of money to the school.

All of this is fine, but it doesn't answer the real question: why on earth would USC hire Kiffin? USC is a program that has, at times, dominated college football. And they are going to hire Kiffin -- a guy who has accomplished nothing and has very questionable ethics? I don't get it. And why the big rush to hire someone within hours of Carroll's departure? I would have thought USC would conduct a thorough search for the best available coach. Just seems really dumb to me.

Look at it this way, if you're the AD at USC, do you want to hire a guy who is willing to walk away from a brand new head coaching job at another school? It's fine to bash Kiffin for a lack of loyalty, but also bash USC for not requiring any.

Speaking of loyalty, props to my man Muschchamp at UT for being loyal to the Longhorns and turning down the Tennessee job.

That's the most accurate statement of Kiffin I've ever heard!

I don't feel so bad for Tennessee..after all, they did buy his BS and hire him in the first place, but I do feel bad for the athletes that were counting on him...that's the most sympathy this Crimson Tide fan can give

because he'll be the perfect fall guy for all the crap coming down the pipe that Carroll is leaving ahead of...seeing as Kiffin was there when a lot of the USC stuff went down anyway....

Bingo! No big name head coach in their right mind would have taken that job with the sanctions coming from the NCAA. Only one who is as retarded as Kiffykins would have taken it. It's not like he was their first choice after all. They only had 5 or 7 (depending on reports) other coaches who turned them down before they got to him. It's probably 60% his fault anyway since ol Petey was too busy boogie boarding to pay attention to these things.

I don't mean to sidetrack the thread, but the use of terms such as "retarded" when describing someone is really offensive . . . Especially to those IAP members who have loved ones who are intellectually disabled.

It's been in the dictionary since 1895, and the DSMD still uses that nomenclature to classify individuals below 70 on a standard IQ test. It's from the Latin Retardare which means to delay.

Justin . . you don't get it. You're using the term in a derogatory and demeaning fashion to insult someone. Why would you use the term in a negative way when there are IAP member with loved ones who have the disability?

(Actually, "intellectually disabled" is the more accepted term and rapidly replacing "mental retardation" by many professional organizations.)

How would you feel if you had a young child who is "mentally retarded" and you were on the forum reading posts that were an insult by calling someone "retarded"?

Or, what if your child heard another kid in school calling him "retarded"?

I get it just fine chief. You are the one that doesnt get it.

I didn't insult anyone but Lane Kiffin.

It's as plain and simple as that.

If you got offended by it, well then that's your issue.
