To those that have made the egg kaleidoscopes, the instructions tell you to start with a 2"X2"X2-1/2" or longer blank. Is this size necessary or could one use a 1-1/2"X1-1/2"X2+ blank. The reason I ask is AS has a lot of 1-1/2" square dyed BEB blanks but no 2" square blanks listed. Would these be big enough?

Additionally, the small scopes use a lens because your eye doesn't focus at less than 6". The focal length of the lens is the same as the tube length, so cutting it short is NOT an option.

SORRY!!![:(][:(][:(][:(][:(]

Wrong dimension Frank. I know they have to be at least as long as the tube, I'm asking about the "diameter". Would a 1-1/2"X1-1/2" by at least 2-1/4"(tube length) work?

Mannie,

An inch and a half is a very small diameter for an egg. CAN you do it? Yes.

Will you be happy with it? Try a piece of scrap that is 2.25" long and 1.5" in diameter and see what you think of it. The k-scope kit will take about 3/4" out of the center, (hole) so take a peek and see what YOU think.

Mannie said it has to be "egg-shaped" or he might want to change it's name!!![:D][:D][:D][:D]

FWIW

Mannie
what I have learned from making K-scope kits is that the larger diameter is easier to hold in the hand. I have made them from 1.5 inch square and have sold them that way but the bigger the Diameter the easier it is to hold.
