Just where are you going to be later today?
I'm gonna be . . .
At the MPG!!!!
Several showed up this evening to help set up. One flew in from Washington (uh huh, the state).
Took over an hour just to get all the sponsor donated door prizes laid out. I can't say enough about the suppliers and manufacturers who stepped up to the plate to support this event! They are really great people!! After everyone was finished looking the prizes over and making their "hope I win list", I noticed someone is gonna have to wipe all the drool off them before we can begin giving them away. Still have a few boxes of donated blanks to go through and group for the giveaway.
Rich Coers (low48) has about 12 feet of table filled to the max with blanks. 100's of blanks to choose from. He also has his Mini Jet he converted to a Rose lathe set up and will be doing mini (no pun intended) demos through out the day along with hid Drying and Dying demonstration. Since the Carpenter's Local which has graciously let us use their hall collects tops for their Day with Santa for the kids, he brought out a few of his tops. The smallest one was right around 3/8" in diameter. Tiny to say the least but boy could it spin. He then told us he has some smaller. About 6 of them will fit on a quarter!!
One of the Pen Wizard demonstrators brought along a couple of display cases of pens on loan to him from Beall. Some really amazing pens and really amazing folks at Beall! Looking forward to the tag-team Pen Wizard demo!
Ken Mayes is doing a hands on segmenting demo which is a new approach for the MPG. His demo will run continuously through out the day taking about 15 minutes per person. Registration for this demo along with a $10.00 fee is required but each will leave with a custom segmented blank that they crafted themselves. Kenny does some awesome segmenting work so I hope I have the time to fill up one of the time slots!
Our local turning club will have our new Jet 1642-VS lathe set up for bowl turning for those wishing to try their hand at something a bit larger than they are used to.
There is also a display of some finely crafted shadow boxes for pens for sale. Also a selection of some sweet looking dyed blanks along with stabilized corn cobs. And there will be more set up later this morning for sure.
We will try and post pictures at the MPG web site of the events through out the day. So if you haven't yet bookmarked the site you might want to just to see what your missing!!!
And don't forget, there is always next year!!!
