I tried making my first blank with clear resin and some candy apple gems,
and feathers.

sadly the feathers were too short... and I couldnt get them tied down properly at both ends of the barrel/stopper.

I decided rather than just give up to throw in some candy apple gems to see what happens... I think this wont work and will be a disaster but is there any further tips you can offer...

I have read this review.

http://content.penturners.org/articles/2010/casting_feather_blanks.pdf

which inspired me. but i did things a bit differantly with the base.. instead of using my lathe as a spinner I was hopeing to make a re usuable block and use dowling to be pushed through... needs a bit of a rethink.. but I think I got a plan...

anyway here are two photos of my horrible work.. and no I really do mean horrible... just want advice .. and yes too much gems!!! first time I used the stuff.

If you would read it it says to click on thumnail and you can read how it is done.

I did but tell me the differance in your link you posted vrs the one I posted in the first post?
http://content.penturners.org/articl...her_blanks.pdf

that is a step by step but all condensed into one printable page.

that was why I said I already posted it... i cant seem to find any differances in the posts.. apart from layout.

yes and no... it was due to the feathers being too short... plus I didnt have the correct tool he mentioned which will hopefully help... the bobbins used by fly fishers.

thank you for your help... I will have to re read both links to see if I am missing something.. no doubt me being me.. I have.

and then have another bash at it...

Thanks.. I bought a set because the spool kept getting away and it didnt keep it tight or weighted down... my wife stated to me... go out in your garage and get a nut! I said I have one standing next to me... guess what I got a slap! OUTCH!

but I decided to buy some because they are weighted.. and I hope easier. I am rather excited and hope that this works... when I cut the blank off the wooden frame I made.... which was a attempt to be reuseable.. Still might! but it doesnt look half bad.... the problem is or was that you can see alot of the wooden dowl in the photos above.. there are a couple of spots of the barrel... very small.. but I still dont think its right.. but not bad for a first go... will turn it and post pictures.. even if its a total mess like I suspect...
