There's another one to be careful of also and has been around for several years. If someone calls saying they are from the IRS and they want to verify information. It is illegal for the IRS to do that over the phone. We can only do that via offical correspondence. We get reminders on this every year. It's also found on the irs.gov web site.

Kol Tov,

I never give my info to anyone unless its my choose. Like loan apps or at work, stuff like that.
One time someone called saying they were from our credit card company. They explaind why they called then asked for our account number. My response was "why do you need my account number, you should know it." They backtracked and I hung up on them and called my credit card company to tell them about it. That wasn't the first time we have received a BS call like that.
You should ""never"" give your info to anyone you cant confirm the ID of. No one can punish you for being cautious. It's their responsibility to prove their ID.

Any time you receive a phone call from anyone, NEVER--NEVER--NEVER give out any personnal infromation to them. You NEVER know who you are talking to. I have handled many cases of identify theft from people that gave out information over the phone.
