Are you in a pinch for pies? The Julian Pie Co. makes the best and will ship them to you with freezing instructions. I know people that will drive 150 miles to get a Dutch apple pie. Check it out!

First off, I'll vouch for the excellence of those pies! Gerry, fortunately, the fires this year, while a couple were very close to Julian, chose to bypass the town this year. Not so a couple years ago, when the entire town was threatened.

AHHHHHHH Sir William..........we planted 3 of our own apple trees about a month ago in Big Bear. Great minds run in circles, don't they???[}:)][;)] As for the pie, I'll tell ya in a few years, LOL!

Before pies were considered dangerous on airplanes... I was known to bring a fresh baked one cross country (Calif to Fla) for LOML. She had a thing for Marie Callendar's blueberry/apple with struessel topping. I'd order a whole one to be picked up on the way to the airport. Yum!!

Yep ol' Marie makes good pies too. I still think Julian pie makes 'em better[:)][:p]

I ordered Dutch Peach Apple - Boysenberry Apple - Strawberry Rhubarb. Last one is for my SIL, she loves them and it's her anniversary next week.
Becca,

I am planting some apple trees this weekend. How long before I can cook my own apple pies?? [;)]

BTW Sir William, people bake pies, they don't cook them[}:)]

LOL, Becca, it is a regional delicacy that I miss here in PA!!

John Folse is a Louisiana chef, and the above link is one of his recipes.

Not to totally hijack this thread, but for those of you near San Fran., my daughter is now the dessert and pastry chef at Zuni's Cafe on 1658 Market St, near Franklin.
If you want a great treat stop in and see what Jenn's making fresh for you [:D] [;)]
And, of course, give her my love. [^]
