Last week Rockler had a sale on rare earth magnets.
The prior week we had replaced the knives on my jointer but had only used a straight edge so we weren't really happy with it.
I had some pieces of polycarbonate.
We resawed the polycarbonate to about 1/2" thick and narrow enough leave room to loosen the two outside bolts and then drilled holes just enough to fully seat the magnets.
Set the drum to top dead center and loosen the bolts. The magnets snapped the knife right level with the outfeed table so we could first tighten the outside bolts, remove the jig and tighten the inside bolts. Did that three times.
Now when I joint wood it is smooth as a baby's butt.
Cost of magnets $8
Polycarbonate (scrap) FREE
2 jointer kife setters
