Japanese Plum

Just picked up a load of Japanese Plum logs locally- Any input on qualities would be appreciated.

I've heard plum likes to split a lot. Be sure to seal it, especially the ends, if it is green. Plum can have some gorgeous figure and color to it.

Plum splits alot and pretty quickly, even when waxed. If you are planning on turning bowls I'd turn then soon, leave 1" thick and wax them and wait for 6-12 months depending on blank size. You also turn green to thin wall finish and expect alot of movement ( which can be nice depending on what you are going for) If using for pen blanks I would cut into 1 1/4" thick slabs and let dry.

Yes Plum cracks fast and hard. Cut the wood to the size you want and then boil it for 1 hour per inch. Place it on a rack to dry off and cool down. Then store it for 4 weeks and you will be good to go.
